Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 5(d) authorizes the federal district courts to establish practices and procedures for the filing, signing, and verification of documents by electronic means. CM/ECF is an Internet-based document filing system which is user-friendly and offers many benefits to the public, attorneys, and the court. By using this system, entries are immediately placed on the docket. Registrants have internet access to the docket and most of the court file at relatively low cost. Electronic filing has been mandatory in the Southern District of Iowa since 2005.
