The Historical Society for the Southern District of Iowa is a not-for-profit corporation that operates as a branch of the Historical Society for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Its mission is to preserve and celebrate the rich history of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
Oral Histories: One of the projects it has undertaken for many years is to record and produce oral histories of federal and state appellate court judges in Iowa as well as other leaders in the profession from this District. Supreme Court in My Hometown: The Historical Society for the Southern District of Iowa is currently working in collaboration with the Iowa State Bar Association Federal Practice Committee, the Historical Society for the Northern District of Iowa, and the Supreme Court Historical Society to bring a program called The Supreme Court in My Hometown to Iowa. This will include a Teacher Professional Development program during the summer of 2027 and the Hometown program itself during back-to-back weeks during the summer of 2029. If you are interested in working with the planning committee to bring these programs to Iowa, this is the perfect time to get involved.
