Naturalization

Naturalization ceremonies are open to the public and are held at the court approximately once per month in Des Moines, and approximately four times per year in Davenport. For those not petitioning for a name change, administrative ceremonies, which are shorter and less ceremonial, are conducted more frequently by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. If you are petitioning for a name change, you must be naturalized at a courthouse ceremony. See the schedule of courthouse naturalization ceremonies below.

For information about becoming a naturalized citizen call U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at 1.800.375.5283 or see their website at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis, or email at dsminfodesk@dhs.gov

USCIS is located at 210 Walnut Street, Room 369, Des Moines, Iowa, 50309.

A very limited amount of naturalization records are still held at our Des Moines Courthouse. If you need to obtain a copy of a name change order, please call us at 515.284.6299.
